How to reach: To reach the tidal bench marks by boat from Wrangell, AK head west 85 km (53 mi) to Point Baker, turn left and proceed south through Sumner Strait for 19 km (12 mi) to the Shakan Bay, proceed SE 9 km (6 mi) to Shakan Strait, continue through Shakan Strait for 9 km (6 mi) to the western entrance to Dry Pass, and proceed east through Dry Pass for 10 km (6 mi) to the Forest Service Dock for El Capitan Caves on Prince of Wales Island. The benchmarks are located along the shoreline between the Forest Service Dock and Bear Valley Lodge. The tide gauges and staff were located on the metal dock pilings.
